Planning a wedding can be exciting but also very stressful! There are so many things to do before the big day. Most wedding photographers get booked 6-12 months in advance, that’s why booking your wedding photographer should be a priority.
Meeting your photographer at a coffee shop or at a studio allows you to get to know your photographer. This is the perfect opportunity to ask questions, look at samples of their work, go over contracts and payment arrangements, ect.
Need help preparing for the consultation? Below are a few questions to ask;
How many weddings have you shot?
Some photographers have 10 years of experience but may have only shot a couple of weddings. You’ll want to ask how many weddings per year they typically shoot. If they mainly shoot indoor or outdoor weddings and if they’ve ever shot at your venue. An engagement session serves as a practice run for the big day. Most brides and grooms don’t have much practice in front of the camera and may feel awkward or uncomfortable. This session will help you loosen up and become more comfortable in front of the camera. This is a perfect time to practice posing with your partner.
What is your style?
This is an important question to ask, not everyone has the same style! Be sure you let your photographer know your preference whether it’s fine art, photojournalistic, traditional, fashion, natural light, ect. Show examples if possible.
Do you have a backup plan if you get sick?
This is rare but you never know what could happen. Most studios have on call photographers that can take over if the main
photographer gets sick or has to cancel..
How much is the deposit?
You should ask about installments, due dates, refunds and cancellation policies.
When will I receive my wedding photos? Do you give raw files?
On average most photographers deliver between 4-8 weeks. It’s up to the photographer, but most do not give raw files only edited hi-res images.
Are you insured?
Professional wedding photographers have insurance to protect their business, and many venues require it. If your wedding photography doesn’t have it, they’re probably new to the game.
Do all packages come with a second shooter?
It’s important to know what your package entails and if it comes with a second shooter. Wedding are fast paced with many things happening simultaneously. It’s a great idea to have a second shooter to cover all angles.
